A VILLAGE fete - resurrected for the first time in more than 90 years - has raised £4,000 for a North-East charity.
The Hamsterley Hoppings, held last month, was revived by residents of the village.
Money raised from the event, combined with profits from an auction and raffle at a prize-giving ceremony at the weekend, raised more than £5,000.
The Hoppings committee kept some of the money to help with costs for next year's fete, but presented a cheque for £4,220 to two representatives of the Great North Air Ambulance at the ceremony.
Trish Hayes, one of the organisers of the Hoppings, said: "It went better than we ever expected. We thought that, if we could raise £2,000, that would be great, but in fact we've more than doubled that.
"It exceeded anything that we ever expected and now everybody is really, really looking forward to next year's event.
"We learned a lot of lessons from this year and we'll be able to make next year's event better because of that."
