TWO men will appear in court this morning charged with murder after a man was found injured in a street, and later died.
Police were called at about 12.30am on Saturday morning after members of the public raised concerns over the welfare of 39-year-old Peter Ronald Gilling, who was found with serious injuries.
Last night, Sunday, two men aged 31 and 36 were charged with murder and will appear at Teesside Magistrates Court this morning, Monday.
A third man arrested yesterday afternoon has been released under investigation whilst inquiries continue.
Emergency services responded to the call for help outside to the entrance to Melsonby Court high-rise flats in Billingham, near Stockton, and transported him to The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.
Mr Gilling was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at hospital.
His heartbroken family paid tribute to him at the weekkend.
They said: “We have been left utterly saddened and shocked by Peter’s death. He was a much loved son, brother and grandson and he will be hugely missed by all his family and by his many friends.
“We hope his death will not be in vain and that no other family has to endure the devastation and heartache we are currently going through - and will continue to go through.
“As a family we would now ask to be left to grieve in peace.”
A heavy police presence was reported at the scene in Billingham throughout the early hours of Saturday and during the day.
Forensic teams arrived to scour the area outside the block of flats on Saturday morning and a police cordon was set up around the site off Low Grange Avenue.
