ALMOST 700 cyclists showed off their pedal power in the North-East's biggest bike ride.
About 550 completed the Durham Big Ride's 25-mile course, with a further 150 following a three-mile route.
They are expected to have raised thousands of pounds for charity.
Ed Tutty, one of the ride organisers, said: "It was above anything we expected."
The rides began at County Hall, in Aykley Heads, Durham, at 9.30am on Sunday by Mayor of Durham Councillor Bob Wynn and Councillor Edna Hunter, the chairman of Durham County Council.
The longer route included Witton Gilbert, Lanchester and Langley Park. The first section, including three large hills, was on road, with the ride joining the Lanchester Valley cycle route for the return to Durham City.
Mr Tutty said: "Everyone was asking what the date will be next year and we will undoubtedly do it again.
"The hardcore riders said it was a good course and the hobby riders said it was a real challenge.
Falconry and mountain bike stunt displays were held at County Hall.
