A MEDICAL director has been appointed for Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland Community Services (MRCCS).
Dr Richard Rigby, who works at the Woodside Surgery, in Loftus, lives with his wife, who is also a GP, and his family in Guisborough. He trained in Newcastle and spent two years in an African bush hospital.
His primary care trust responsibilities are mainly in the chronic disease area, particularly diabetes, coronary heart disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Dr Rigby, 41, also works as a GP, with special interest in diabetes, providing community diabetic clinics and also teaches undergraduate medical students.
He said: "I recognise what an important and challenging role this is as the community services aim for independent provider status, and look forward to working with the team to make sure we provide the best possible services for patients locally."
Stephen Childs, chief operating officer for MRCCS, said: "We are delighted that Dr Rigby has accepted our offer to become the medical director. He will be a great addition to the team."
