COUNCILLORS have bowed to a request by residents for a site visit before it is decided whether plans for a waste transfer station can go ahead.
Greystones Aggregates and Recycling is seeking permission for change of use of agricultural buildings, loading bays and a yard at Greystones Farm, Goldsborough, near Knaresborough.
A skip hire business would import paper, glass, plastic, wood, cardboard, aluminium and tin cans. After sorting, a shovel loader would move the waste into storage for collection by other recycling companies. Up to 6,000 tonnes of waste a year would be imported, with about ten vehicle movements a day.
Objections were received from the parish council, which called for a site visit, and three residents raising concerns about traffic, visual impact and potential litter and vermin problems.
The county council planning committee overruled officers, who recommended approval subject to conditions, and deferred a decision for a site visit.
