Harriers' senior athletes have been out in force at local road races over the last few weeks.

Paul Kelly was an excellent fifth in the Castleton Show race last weekend. Paul used his strength on the hills to good advantage to record a time of 38 mins 40 secs.

The previous week he was also well up the field in the Tholthorpe 10k south of Thirsk. This time he came home in 37:52 in a race won by Newham and Essex Beagles international Steve Hepples in 31:01.

Also last weekend, Steve O'Neil was second in the Wetherby Run, the last race in the Black Sheep series. He finished the 10k distance in 33:53 behind individual and series winner Gary Dunn, of Thirsk and Sowerby, who ran 32:14.

Several athletes took part in the Ray Harrison Memorial 10k at Billingham last weekend. The flat course is suitable for fast times and always attracts a good entry.

Ronnie Read was first home for the club in 28th place with 39:27, followed by Kevin Grainger, who was 33rd in 40:37. Linda Noble ran 43:01 for 53rd place and Sue Phillips was 68th in 43:56.

Shirley Gibson was 116th in 48:22 and Joanne Tonkin 148th in 51:11, with John Brant recording the same time. Jackie Nicholls was 159th in 52:27 and Steve Dauber 166th in 53:21.

Kevin Grainger tackled the Autumn Coast Road 10k at New Marske, finishing 40th in 19 mins 10 secs.

Further afield, Harriers had two athletes competing in the World Triathlon Championships in Hamburg. Georgina Rutherford finished 30th in her age category. Jo Short also took part, although her result has not yet been posted.

This weekend sees several athletes competing in the Tees Pride 10k in Middlesbrough.
