A 41-year-old man has been charged with the murder of John Allan Hudson, who died from stab wounds in a flat at the weekend.
John Edward Potter, of Millfield Close, Newburn, Newcastle, will appear before Newcastle Magistrates this morning.
Mr Hudson, 48, who lived in Clarks Hill Walk, Newburn, suffered multiple wounds.
He had been visiting the middle floor flat in a block where at least two other people were inside at the time.
Police were alerted when a suspect walked into Etal Lane police station, in Westerhope, at about 11am yesterday.
They found Mr Hudson in a pool of blood inside the flat in Millfield Close. A man and two women arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender were bailed pending further inquiries.
