ENTHUSIASTS raised £1,700 for charity when they invited the public to see their mechanical favourites.

More than 200 cars and 1,500 members of the public took part in the second annual classic car rally at Swainby, near Osmotherley.

Cars on show included a Rolls-Royce, Bentley, many MGBs, various Austins and many more, with the oldest car dating from the Twenties.

There were also a number of commercial vehicles, including an Austin Wagon in gas board livery, a Scammell wagon and a steam roller.

Two-wheel fans were also catered for, with a display of penny farthings and pre and post-war motorbikes

The event raised a total of £1,700, which was presented to the Butterwick House Children's Hospice.

Organisers Geoff Newton and John Chetwood thanked all the volunteers who helped make the event happen and the local people who donated raffle prizes.

A spokesman for the hospice said: "The money raised will be used to provide much-needed care for children with life-limiting illnesses from all over the North-East.

"Butterwick House receives very little Government funding, so donations such as this are essential."
