Saltburn made their exit from the senior division in a blaze of glory after Indian professional Yogesh Galwalker hit his first century and almost carried them to what would have been a memorable first victory.

Relegated for the first time, the Seasiders put up a fight against Marske on the final day with Galwalker's unbeaten 103 from 121 balls taking them within 18 runs of the elusive win.

His carefully constructed innings, which included just 44 in boundaries in two hours and 27 minutes, featured a sixth-wicket stand of 73 with Sean Storey, who made 36.

Saltburn finished on 230 for seven after needing 42 runs from the last 18 balls.

Marske found Galwalker (three for 90) to be the main wicket taker but Rob Nicol (82) and in-form Guy Whatmore (47), with Karl Bramwell (34) in support, took them to 247 for seven.

With the championship already decided - Middlesbrough celebrated the week before - the spotlight switched to the runners-up.

Northallerton secured second spot when they beat Redcar, although Great Ayton were waiting in the wings after defeating Normanby Hall.

Last season's champions had something to celebrate when professional Riaz Afridi grabbed the fourth of his final seven wickets. It took him to 100 league victims, a rare feat.

Having missed out by just one wicket last season, it was a milestone achieved in just 23 games. On a bowler-friendly track, his seven for 27 was not the only outstanding performance.

Normanby's Mohammed Zahid (five for 56) and Keith Martin (five for 71) gave their side the chance of picking off Ayton until Afridi and Chris Batchelor (three for 13) produced even more devastating form. Normanby were out for 73 after Ayton made 151.

Northallerton finished with a nine-wicket victory with Ramish Parida (54 not out) one of three to finish in the elite 1,000 runs club. Redcar's Tariq Aziz fell 36 runs short of the target.

Middlesbrough finished with their 16th victory against Guisborough, whose decline has been a major surprise.

The Priory club, who have won the championship four times since the millennium finished second bottom. Boro left it late to remind them what it's like to celebrate as champions. The game went to the last over before James Beaumont (60 not out) and Brett Roberts (37 not out) saw them home with three wickets to spare.

The Priory club's poorest season for years was completed when Darlington beat Blackhall in a nail-biting finish to climb just above them in the final table. Neil Pratt struck 133 from 142 balls with 16 fours and four sixes as the Quakers amassed 254 for five, sharing an opening stand of 191 with Dan Hodgson (63). Tony Booth (64) gave the Colliery club a fine start but their last five wickets fell for 46 and David Eckels (five for 59) got the last wicket from the last ball of the match.

Marton finished with a fifth straight win, at Richmond. Imran Tahir, fresh from his county debut with Yorkshire, hit the home side with six wickets and then saw Chris Simpson make his first senior half-century to take them to a seven-wicket success.

Bishop Auckland's Jack Conway (six for 20) took star billing after he was called up unexpectedly to open the bowling with his spinners against Hartlepool. Jack and his brother Dan (four for 40) enjoyed dramatic results. Pool were dismissed for 70, the fifth lowest team score of the season. Bishops won by seven wickets to finish in the top six.
