PIANIST Peter Donohoe is to perform at Ripon Cathedral.
He will play Rachmaninov's Rhapsody On a Theme of Paganini for solo piano and orchestra as guest soloist at the St Cecilia Orchestra's gala concert, conducted by Xen Kelsey, at 7.30pm on Sunday, September 16.
Also on the programme is Mahler's Symphony No 5, used in the film Death in Venice and conducted by Leonard Bernstein during a memorial to John F Kennedy.
Tickets are £12, £10 and £5, available on the door.
Mr Donohoe was born in Manchester, and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and then with Yvonne Loriod, the wife of the late Olivier Messiaen.
Since he won the 1982 international Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow, he has developed a distinguished career in Europe, the US and the Far East.
He has performed annually at the BBC Proms and appeared at the Edinburgh Festival for six consecutive years.
He has also made many recordings, winning awards for his renditions of work by Liszt and Tchaikovsky.
