AN indoor bowling club has honoured the efforts of three of its longest-standing members.
Durham Indoor Bowling Club, in Pity Me, near Durham, organised an event to pay tribute to former president Miriam Metcalfe, former women's secretary Nora Brewster and founder member Nan Dixon.
Incoming women's secretary Trudy Kitto said: "I thought it would be nice as my first official duty to recognise the efforts of these really remarkable women.
"They had the idea of getting the money together for the club - Miriam Metcalfe was the driving force behind the project.
"When you look at the building now, it is unbelievable to think that they managed to raise the thousands of pounds needed to build it."
The club, which last year celebrated its tenth birthday, has about 90 women members.
