JOURNEY South will journey home tonight when the X Factor duo launch the BBC's Proms in Park.

Brothers Carl and Andy Pemberton, who make up group, will perform during the warm-up to the event in Middlesbrough's new Centre Square.

They will play two tracks from their new album, including their forthcoming single That's What I Love About Home, as well as the hit The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face.

Thousands of people are expected to picnic under the stars for the event, which will be hosted by BBC Radio Tees breakfast presenter Matthew Davies.

Music for the concert will be provided by Northern Sinfonia, recently named as one of the UK's leading three orchestras by The Times newspaper. The group will be conducted by Michal Dworzynski.

There will be a live big-screen link to London's Royal Albert Hall for the Last Night of the Proms celebrations, and it will end with a fireworks finale.

Teesside-born opera singer Suzannah Clarke, who trained with the late Pavarotti's tutor in Italy and was a leading campaigner to get the Proms in the Park event in Middlesbrough, said: "The event is going to be fantastic. This is exactly what we need for the area. It is absolutely vital.

"I am hoping everyone will turn out and show the nation what we can do.

"The weather is going to be good, so everyone should get themselves down to the square.

"For the quality we are going to have on stage, the prize is amazing. We have got such a wide range of music on offer."

As well as Journey South, The Wildcats of Kilkenny and the Tees Valley Youth Choir will also be on hand to start the evening's entertainment.

A film prepared by Teesside University featuring local celebrities endorsing the event will be shown.

There will be street entertainers prior to the event to amuse younger prom-goers.

Gates open at 5.30pm, the pre-show entertainment will begin at 6.15pm and the main event will take place from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.

Tickets are £10 for adults, £8 for over-60s and under-18s, and free for accompanied under-12s.
