PLANS for a waste transfer station near a town are expected to be approved next week despite objections.

Greystones Aggregates and Recycling is seeking permission from the county council for change of use of agricultural buildings, loading bays and a yard at Greystones Farm, Goldsborough, near Knaresborough.

If the development is approved by the planning committee on Tuesday, a skip hire business will import paper, glass, plastic, wood, cardboard, aluminium and tin cans.

After sorting on site, a shovel loader will move the waste to storage for collection by recycling companies.

Up to 6,000 tonnes of waste a year will be imported, and there will be about ten vehicle movements a day, with lorries entering and leaving the site by the current farm access onto the B6164.

Harrogate Borough Council is not opposing the development, subject to controls governing the height of storage mounds and screening. However, objections have been received from the parish council and three residents raising concerns about traffic, the visual impact and potential litter and vermin issues.

Planning officers, who are recommending approval, said the development complied with waste policies and that the concerns can be met by imposing appropriate conditions.
