A COUPLE are looking forward to a party with almost 40 of their close family members to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary.
William and Hannah Talbot, of Ascot Place, Perkinsville, near Chester-le-Street, were wed 60 years ago yesterday.
The couple, who were married at the Wesleyan Chapel in Birtley, have four children.
A party is being held on Saturday, September 22, at The Bird Inn, in High Handenhold, near Chester-le-Street, attended by and relatives from all over the country.
Guests include their children, ten grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Mr Talbot, 84, a former miner who went on to work at Caterpillar, in Birtley, as a fork-lift truck driver, said: "We have stuck together over the years and it is great. It does not feel like 60 years, though."
Mrs Talbot, 85, said they had their ups and down, as do most couples.
She said: "Everyone has their trials, but we have sailed through them.
"We are both very happy to have reached our diamond wedding anniversary."
