PERSONNEL at an air base have been putting the kettle on for the best of causes.
RAF Linton-on-Ouse, near York, is supporting Brew For The Few, part of the RAF Association's Wings Appeal, which helps to raise about £2m a year to provide welfare, care and support for past and present personnel and their dependants.
The association helps more than 20,000 veterans a year at a cost of more than £8m. It receives no Government funding, so must raise its own money.
Spokesman Tony Hirons said: "The idea is simple and encourages people to invite friends, family or work colleagues to pop round for a cuppa and ask them to make a small donation.
"A tea party can be held at home or at work, in a local village hall or community centre."
At Linton, base staff donated cakes, and pilots took a break from flying duties to pop into the community centre and enjoy a cuppa.
Corporal Sara Crow, who organised the event, said: "I think it is important that people in the RAF support our own.
"I have just joined Linton's charity committee and believe strongly in fundraising for our people, whose brave actions should be remembered."
