A PROPOSED youth centre in Teesdale is being held up because a fire alarm needs to be installed in the building.
Community workers are trying to set up a drop-in centre in Staindrop, near Barnard Castle.
The group, led by youth worker Colin Blandford, has already received money from the parish council and other funding, but the money cannot be released until the fire alarm is fitted.
The group is hoping a local person or business could help raise the £400 needed in the next month to be able to move the project forward.
Mr Blandford said: "It would be such a shame if the whole project had to be stopped because we could not fund a fire alarm."
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Mr Blandford on 07888-832458.
