A PROPOSED new route designed to make life safer for cyclists may win approval from local councillors.
Residents in Rufforth want a cycle track that would give them safe passage to the A1237 York outer ring road.
They would like it to be a hard-surfaced track alongside Wetherby Road, which links Rufforth to the west of York - a distance of about three kilometres.
Mike Wood, who heads the steering group that is lobbying City of York Council for the route, presented a petition of 166 signatures of support for the plan to the council a few months ago.
Now, a council report advises that the authority should help the group to find money for the scheme, if the council cannot pay for it out of its capital funding.
The report says the path will cost in the region of £300,000 and £500,000.
