THE killers of PC Sharon Beshenivsky appeared in court yesterday charged with stabbing a fellow prisoner.

Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah and Yusuf Abdillh Jamma, who are both serving a minimum of 35 years for murder, appeared via video link before magistrates in Peterlee, County Durham.

Jamma, 21, and Shah, 26, were charged with unlawfully, maliciously and intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to Tony Roy Piggott, 22.

The assault is alleged to have taken place while all three were in Frankland Prison, Durham.

Jamma, the first to appear in court, was represented by Rebecca Smith.

His case was adjourned until September 12 at Durham Crown Court.

The hearing had been scheduled for 10am yesterday, but was delayed until the afternoon to allow Shah to be transferred to a prison in Manchester that had video facilities.

Shah, speaking only to confirm his date of birth, was represented by David Comb.

His case was also adjourned until September 12 at Durham Crown Court.

Jamma and Shah are serving life sentences for the murder of PC Beshenivsky, who was shot dead during the robbery of a travel agency in Bradford, West Yorkshire, in November 2005.

Jailed at Newcastle Crown Court last December, they were told they must serve at least 35 years in prison.

Fellow inmate and victim Piggott is also serving a life sentence for fatally shooting a man on the dancefloor of a nightclub in August 2003.

Jamma, from Small Heath, Birmingham, and Shah, from Kenton, London, have been moved to separate prisons.
