After the disappointment of going out at the first stage of the County Cup last season the Masons made no mistake as they beat Chester Le Street Whitehills 6-0 in the first preliminary round.
Liam McRoy opened the scoring after 15 mins when he powered home a header from Lee Atkinson's free kick. Lewis Dodds made it 2-0 when he cleverly lifted the ball over the keeper. Shortly after the visitors had a man sent off and the Masons took full advantage when Lee Atkinson scored from close range to make it 3-0 before half time.
Despite been down to 10 men Whitehills never gave up and worked hard but after Lewis Dodds raced clear and rounded the keeper to score his second things got easier. Liam McRoy made it 5-0 with a neat dink over the keeper and Lewis Dodds completed his hat trick to complete the 6-0 scoreline when he broke clear and slotted under the advancing keeper.
Despite the scoreline the lads were made to work hard for their win and it was pleasing to see Andrew Richardson make his debut after joining us from Thorns and over coming a long term knee injury.
