FAMILIES in Coundon are welcoming childcare services, which were launched yesterday.
Bishop Auckland MP Helen Goodman opened the facility at the Coundon Sure Start Centre, in the town's Victoria Lane.
It will offer care throughout the day for up to 38 children under five, as well as early years education, health and family support under the same roof.
Ms Goodman, who worked on the national Sure Start programme before becoming an MP, said Coundon was getting a fantastic facility.
She said: "It is important that high quality services are available to parents."
Coundon councillor Neil Stonehouse said: "Everybody at the centre had a brilliant day. The childcare service will be excellent for the village.
"There has been a very good reaction from parents who came along for open days over the summer.
"They are keen to use the centre and get involved."
This week, children are attending free two-hour induction sessions, where they can get to know staff and their surroundings.
Anyone wanting more information can contact the centre on 01388-660365.
