CLUB stalwarts from across County Durham proved they are keeping old traditions alive by staging an impressive produce show.
Durham CIU Horticultural Show was held at Chilton & Windlestone Club, in Chilton, County Durham, yesterday.
Of the 228 social and workingmen's clubs within the olf County Durham border that are eligible to compete, only 30 entered the horticultural and floral classes.
But branch secretary Mick McGlasham said those that did take did the CIU proud with excellent entries.
He said: "We'd like more people to take part, especially young people to keep these traditions going.
"Hobby clubs like gardening, ferrets, games are an important part of club life.
"The exhibits we have had at the show have been first rate and we're grateful of members' support and contributions."
Thornley Workingmen's Club won the Premier Award Cup for the most points in show, which included the trench leeks award, and the prize for best pot leeks went to Fishburn Workingmen's Club.
* A full list of winners with photographs will appear in The Northern Echo on Monday, and next week's Darlington and Stockton Times and Durham Times.
