THE family of a youngster with a life-limiting condition are appealing for help so she can compete in three major horse competitions.

Charlotte Purdy, ten, of Esh Winning, County Durham, suffers from cystic fibrosis but enjoys competing in horse shows and gymkhanas despite the terminal condition.

Last year, readers of The Northern Echo answered an appeal by the family for money to replace their ageing horse box so she could continue to attend events.

A successful season has seen Charlotte qualify for competitions including the Royal London Miniature Horse of the Year Show, Grantham and Miniature Horse Club of Great Britain Championship Show at Boston, Lincolnshire, in September.

Charlotte is currently undergoing a spell of hospital treatment but it looking forward to competing in the events.

Her mother Heather said: "We weren't expecting her to qualify but she had a fabulous run and has won 65 rosettes.

"We didn't think she would do it and she is ecstatic and she would love to go but it will cost in excess of £200 a trip just for diesel.

"It is a shame, she has the lorry and just needs the money to go that step further. It is her dream. Next year she might not be able to do it.'' Anyone who wants to help should send cheques made out to Charlotte's Wish to 2 Redwood, Esh Winning , DH7 9AG. They can call 0191-373 9778 for further information.
