A COMMUNITY day organised by street wardens has been hailed a success.
Neighbourhood Watch, Police Community Support Officers and a recycling expert attended the event held at the Rosemount Chapel, in Rosemount Road, South Church, on Friday.
It was the idea of Wear Valley Street Wardens Sarah Robinson and Wayne Reid.
Residents were invited to listen to talks, while children were given tips on recycling.
Street warden supervisor Debbie Hibbitts said: "Sarah and Wayne have gone to a great deal of effort to organise the day for the local community of South Church and to see the young people turn up to take part in their involvement day was lovely.
"Both Wayne and Sarah are so passionate about their jobs and take anti-social behaviour very seriously.
"It's so good to see that they are endeavouring to, not only enforce such laws as littering, but also to educate the children and help them learn from an early age about such matters that they deal with such as fly tipping, littering, dog fouling and vandalism.
