POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a restaurant worker was attacked on his way home from work.
The incident happened at 11.15pm on Friday, August 24, in Gray Avenue, Sherburn Village.
The 29-year-old victim stepped off the bus from Durham and was attacked from behind by two men in dark clothing, one of whom wore a white baseball cap.
They knocked him to the ground and, without saying a word, kicked and punched him.
He pretended to be unconscious and his attackers went away.
The victim needed several stitches in his eye socket. He also had bruising and swelling on his face.
Robbery has been ruled out as nothing was stolen and police are treating it as a random, unprovoked attack.
