A SCHOOL was buzzing with activity when it hosted an Urban Festival yesterday.
Young people taking part in the event at Shotton Hall School, in Peterlee, were given the opportunity to try their hand at the turntable as amateur DJs, while others tested their talents at graffiti art and breakdance moves.
The school staged the event with the help of Easington District Council's Pride in Easington team and Easington Community Safety Partnership (CSP).
The day's programme was also linked to the Don't Damage Your Future Campaign, an initiative launched by the CSP to tackle anti-social behaviour in the Eden Hill area of Peterlee.
Also on hand during the day were council street wardens, police community support officers and police officers, who invited those attending to learn about the work they do in the community.
Encouraged by the day, organisers hope the festival will become a regular fixture and a follow-up day is planned for next month.
