A MAN has died after being hit by a train.
The incident happened at Chester-le-Street railway station, in County Durham, at around 3pm this afternoon.
The man, who has not been identified, was hit by the 12.04pm TransPennine Express train from Manchester to Newcastle.
A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said the driver reported seeing a man jump off a platform as the train approached.
The transport police are investigating but the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
East Coast Main Line and TransPennine Express services were disrupted for about an hour.
