A SWEET-toothed student was the inspiration for a confectionery company to bring a famous chocolate bar back into production.
A documentary about the demise of Cadbury's Wispa, by media student Felicity Hopkins, from Spennithorne, near Leyburn, North Yorkshire, became a global rallying call for the bar.
It led to a global internet campaign, which persuaded Cadbury's to reinstate the Wispa with a test run of 23 million bars in October.
Miss Hopkins, who gained a Btec National Diploma in media moving image at Darlington College, won a distinction for her final project, a quiz show video called Who Wants to be a Chocolataire?
Now studying for a media degree at Coventry University, she made a second documentary, called Do You Remember the Wispa Bar?
The film chronicles the popularity of Wispa from its launch in 1983, and its links with Sweeney stars Dennis Waterman and John Thaw and comediennes Victoria Wood and Julie Walters, who were in the original ad campaign.
In 2003, Cadbury's replaced the bar with Dairy Milk Chocolate Bubbly and spokesman Tony Bilsborough is quoted in Miss Hopkins' film as saying it was unlikely to return.
But the cause was picked up by chocolate fans around the world, who discussed the issue on the internet.
Mr Bilsborough said: "We have been bowled over by the overwhelming online demand to bring back Wispa. We have noticed the web interest for some time and the consumer passion has undeniably swayed our opinion to relaunch Wispa.
"This is the first time that the power of the internet played such an intrinsic role in the return of a Cadbury brand."
Miss Hopkins said: "We chose the Wispa as a project because we wanted to make something light-hearted. I had the contacts with Cadbury's from my Darlington College project and they let us film there and use their old adverts."
