AN acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter is returning to Durham's Gala Theatre after proving popular on his first visit.

Terry Gorman, who played at the venue in the spring, comes from South Shields, and has worked with leading lights in the folk music world such as Ralph McTell and Rod Clements.

He will open the autumn season of gigs in the theatre's Studio on Saturday, September 8, when he performs with percussionist Mike Glover and pianist Kamil Mazur, who will also perform instrumental versions of Beatles classics.

The programme will include folk, rock and pop songs.

The Gala's programming manager, Robin Byers, said: "Terry Gorman first performed at the Gala back in May as part of our bank holiday free music events."

Other events in the Autumn Studio Season are the folk duo Megson, in October, local band Last Orders, in November, and a flute and harp Christmas concert.

Tickets for Gorman, Glover, and Kamil cost £6, or £5 concessions, from the box office on 0191-332-4041. The gig starts at 7.45pm.
