BILL Linsley repeated his successes of previous years when he won four trophies at the annual horticultural show in Gainford, near Barnard Castle.

He took the Challenge Cup for the best vegetable exhibit, the Jim Ryder Trophy for the best collection of four vegetables, and the Cross Keys Trophy for the best leek. He also won the Davis Cup for most points overall.

Mr Linsley, who lives in Coundon, has scored successes at a number of other shows, and is well known around the region as a garden produce judge.

Mike Caton, the show treasurer, said the event was an outstanding success, with entries well up on the past few years and a high standard all round.

He added: "The cookery entries were also really outstanding and helped to make the show one of the best we have had for a while."

There was also a good turnout of visitors to see the exhibits in the village school and Scout hut at the weekend.
