COUNCIL members and staff have gathered in a park to celebrate a district's first green flag award.
The Friary gardens, in Richmond, was one of the ten smallest parks in the country to be given one of the awards this year.
A total of 538 parks and green spaces across the UK were presented with awards by the Civic Trust for their maintenance, welcoming atmospheres and involvement of the community.
The award to the Friary gardens was the first for Richmondshire District Council. The judges said the gardens looked welcoming and inviting.
They added: "The gardens are neat, tidy and clean, with colourful and numerous flower beds, and tidy paths."
They also commended the involvement of schools and community groups in planting and using the park for events.
Councillor Melva Steckles, the leader of Richmondshire District Council, said: "We are very proud. The Friary gardens are historic, very well looked after by our grounds maintenance team and much loved and used by local residents and admired by visitors."
