GREAT Britain junior international Richard Kilty was in sparkling form notching up a junior men's sprint double in the annual Tartan Games at Gateshead International Stadium.
The 18-year-old Teessider, who won the English Schools 100m senior boys' championship last month and went on to help Great Britain win the 100m relay gold medals in the European Junior Championships in Holland, defied a headwind to win the 100m in 10.65 secs.
It was his second fastest time of the season and only five hundredths of a second outside his personal-best.
It was a fraction quicker than the 10.66 secs which won him the Scottish Junior Championship in Glasgow earlier this month.
The Gateshead Harrier followed up with a runaway victory in the 200m in a time of 21.47 secs, despite a 1.7metres headwind.
The performance equalled his time in the Northern Championships in Liverpool on June 17, when he was assisted by a 2.8 metres tailwind and was only a tenth of a second outside his best-ever time.
There was another sprint double for a Teesside athlete when Richard Hodgson (Middlesbrough) won the 100m in 11.66 secs and the 200m in 23.80 secs, winning both races by half a second.
Marcus Cram, son of former triple middle-distance world record holder Steve Cram, won the under-15 800m in a time of 2 mins 8.01 secs.
The Morpeth Harrier beat Darlington's Paul Clifford, who clocked 2:08.47.
