THE 138th annual show at St John's Chapel went ahead at the weekend, despite the continuing livestock movement restrictions following the footand- mouth outbreak in the south of England.
The show could not hold its usual sheep and cattle classes, but on a day when the sun came out, this gave other sections the chance to shine.
The event took place at the Upper Weardale village's showground on Saturday, and hundreds of people attended.
Horse and pony sections and the dog competition meant that there were still animals at the show, while the produce and industry section proved popular.
The photography section saw a wide range of high-quality entries.
Other attractions included a display of scarecrows, from the Scare-a-Crow for the Show competition which took place in the build-up to the show, performances by the Stanhope Silver Band and a tug of war.
Carver Peter Leadbetter created objects out of wood using a chainsaw, while the afternoon saw Cyril the Squirrel and his Racing Terriers in the main ring.
Arts and crafts were for sale and there was a display of motorbike.
● Full results and trophy winners will appear in this week's Darlington and Stockton Times.
