POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a man with learning difficulties who was the victim of an apparently unprovoked attack died overnight.
Brent Martin, 23, was found unconscious in Baxter Road, on the Town End Farm estate, Sunderland, at 10pm on Thursday.
Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were taken in for questioning after the assault Mr Martin is thought to have been set on by a group of youths after he left his mother's house on the estate.
Residents reported five youths - two wearing hoodies - assaulting a man before they ran off.
A police spokesman said this morning: "Brent Martin died overnight and this is now being treated as a murder investigation.
"The two people arrested yesterday remain in custody."
