A YOUNG volunteer has been named St John Ambulance's county cadet of the year.
Helen Pace, 16, from the Belmont Division, was given the honour for the next year at a three-day event held at the Jubilee Centre, Crawleyside, in Stanhope.
Cadets from all of the county's divisions competed, undergoing interviews, team games and training sessions.
Helen, who replaces Matthew Todd, from Willington, will represent Durham at the national cadet of the year awards in January.
Her deputy is 15-year-old Zoe Howe, of the Darlington division.
