The Masons kicked off their title defence with a 7-0 win over the Tin Donkey. The opening half hour saw both teams miss some glorious chances with the finishing woeful to say the least. The deadlock was broken when Liam McRoy slotted under the advancing keeper, minutes later he added number two when he fired home through a crowded penalty area.
The second half was all the Masons and goals came at regular intervals. Liam McRoy notched first to complete his hat trick and then Jonathon Heslop headed in at the back post. Marc Costello made it 5-0 when he scored from close range and Jonny Pennock pounced to score number six after the visiting keeper dropped the ball at his feet. Liam McRoy rounded off the scoring when (according to him) he deftly lifted the ball over the keeper at the front post. Some seem to think he meant to pull it back for veteran striker Steven (step over) Richardson.
It was a pleasing performance in the end and showed the strenght of the squad with five players missing.
