A MOTORCYCLIST is critically ill following a collision between his bike and a van.

The 61-year-old was riding a Ducati motorbike in Teesdale, County Durham, when it collided with a Mercedes box van last night.

He was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, by air ambulance with multiple injuries.

He underwent an emergency operation last night and today his condition is still described as critical.

The van driver, a 48-year-old man from Sunderland, escaped uninjured.

Durham police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, which happened outside an outdoor pursuits centre, in Langdon Beck, at around 5.30pm, to call 0845-60-60-365.
