A 38-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a tree in Foxcover Road, Sunderland, at 4.10pm yesterday.
A police spokesman said an Aprilla 600cc motorcycle was travelling in Foxcover Road when - a quarter-of-a-mile from the junction with Foxcover Lane - it swerved to avoid a Mazda MX-5.
The driver of the motorcycle, who has not been named, suffered fatal injuries. Anyone with information should contact 08456-043-043 ext 66331.
