A SCHOOL dining room assistant, who was renowned for encouraging pupils to eat lots of fruit and vegetables, has retired after 27 years' service.
Sue Newstead was presented with flowers and gifts by pupils, staff and council officials at Sharow School, Ripon.
In her time, Mrs Newstead has worked as a cleaner and caretaker.
County Councillor John Watson said: "Sue is a very popular character and will be missed sorely by staff and pupils alike.
"She has shown commitment and adaptability, and is equally at home carrying out a bit of light DIY, scrubbing the floors and feeding hordes of hungry children.
"We all wish her a long, happy and well-deserved retirement."
