PEOPLE who take part in the Durham Bike Ride next month could win a cycle, thanks to a new hairdressing salon.
Hair 4 U, which recently opened in the former toilet block in the city's Indoor Market, has donated a bike worth about £400 that will be the prize in a draw of all the entrants.
Durham City Council is holding the event on Sunday, September 16, when people will have the chance to follow a 25-mile circular route that starts and finishes at County Hall.
Some of the roads will be closed to traffic and the route will go as far as Annfield Plain, near Stanley.
Salon manager Amanda Craine said: "For a new salon in any city, it is important to become part of the business community as quickly as possible.
"Offering this bike as a donation to the event organisers, as well as taking part in the ride itself, I feel is the best way to get involved."
There will also be a Little Ride, of 3.5 miles, for younger riders, which will also start and finish from County Hall.
Entry costs £12 for adults, £5 for riders under-14 and £30 for a family ticket of two adults and up to four children.
