POLICE have joined forces with a school to organise a five-a-side football knockout as an attraction during the summer holiday.
The two-day event, held on Bedale Leisure Centre's all-weather pitch, was organised by PC Peter Taylforth, from the local police station, and Bedale High School PE teacher Phil Tuplin.
PC Taylforth said: "The event was very successful. More than 130 kids aged between 11 and 19 took part during the two days. It was great to see just how competitive the teams were. Some of the kids said they were getting a bit bored at this stage of the school holiday and this had given them something to focus on."
Mr Tuplin said: "The feedback was very positive and we hope to run a similar event next year."
In addition to a team trophy and medals, the winners of each age group will be offered a paintballing trip later in the year.
The event was held with funding from R&R Ice Cream (formerly Richmond Ice Cream), the Co-op and a fund run by North Yorkshire County Council.
