MORE attractions have been added to a town's annual show, which is taking place this weekend.

The Great Aycliffe show runs on Saturday and Sunday, at the show field on School Aycliffe Lane, Newton Aycliffe.

Among the attractions are performers from Greenfield Community and Arts Centre, who are rounding off a productive summer.

Katy Milne, community arts co-ordinator at the school, said: "We have been running arts activities at the centre this summer, with lots of professional artists.

"This has included a drama and arts residency with Scribbly Arts and Team Players, that culminated in a parade through the town centre.

"We have also had residencies with a break dancer and steel pan workshops.

"Both the break dancers and steel pan performers will be playing live at the Great Aycliffe Show, as part of the great range of performances in the Playhouse Marquee."

Meanwhile, organisers have announced that the annual County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue extrication competition will be held at the show for the second year.

It will form the centre of a road casualty reduction event, involving the fire and rescue service and Durham Police, as well as the DVLA and JCB.

The competition will involve fire stations competing to rescue a live casualty from a simulated crash, under the eyes of four judges.

The competition will be held over the course of the show, from 11am to 5pm, and the winners will be presented with a shield.
