A VILLAGE'S first summer fair has proved a success and could pave the way for future events.
West Rainton Parish Council staged the event on Saturday, at the village hall. Attractions included a bouncy castle, charity stalls, a penalty shoot-out, Chinese and Indian food, a clay pigeon shoot in a nearby field, arts and crafts and face-painting.
In the evening there were performances by local musicians, including parish councillors John Mason and Steve Percival, who formed an acoustic duo.
Mr Percival also played bass for the headline band, Barkin' Billy and the Scrapyard Dogs.
Mr Percival, who organised the event, said the fair went well and was well-supported by residents.
He said: "All the events were free. It is the first we have organised a village fair and we are very excited about it.
"We really hope it will be an annual event. We have learnt lessons and will improve on it next year."
