A TALENTED young musician will give the final Bank Holiday organ recital of the year at Ripon Cathedral at 3pm on Monday, August 27.
Mareile Schmidt, who is studying for a diploma at Cologne Conservatoire, has already won a number of prizes and scholarships for her playing. She has appeared at numerous festivals and has been heard on German radio stations. She appears regularly as a soloist on the organ and the harpsichord, and recent engagements have included a tour of Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic.
Her programme at Ripon will include work by Handel, Mendelssohn and Humperdinck and will end with three improvised pieces.
Andrew Bryden, director of music at Ripon Cathedral, said: "This is a fabulous opportunity to hear world-class music free.
"Our recitals enjoy a very relaxed atmosphere and we definitely encourage people to bring children.
"The organist is in full view of the audience, and it should be a truly inspiring occasion."
Although admission is free, a donation of £4 is suggested to help cover the recital expenses.
