Recent young recruit Abby Wilson showed impressive signs of her potential with an eye-catching run in the Sherwoods Darlington 10k last weekend.
Abby was fastest junior in a top-class field, finishing 60th overall in a swift 38 mins 23 secs. Harriers' senior athletes were out in force with white and blue vests prominent in the 1,000-strong field.
Drew Inglis made the long return trip from Cheltenham to put on his racing shoes on home soil and came home 16th and first finisher for the club. Drew, another young athlete with bags of promise, came home in 34:49.
Conditions were warm, but not too oppressive, and were conducive to fast times. Ben Wilson was second over the line for Harriers, finishing 23rd overall in a time of 36:11.
Colin Taylor replicated his time in the recent Croft Circuit 10k by finishing in 37:14. Colin was 41st, and just finishing in the top 50 was veteran Paul Kelly, who had an excellent run to record 37:46 and take the M50 prize.
Ronnie Read produced a flat-out sprint approaching the finishing line to beat Graham Bell in a time of 40 mins dead. Close behind in 100th place was Bernadette Taylor in 40:11.
Bernadette made a late decision to run the race and will be pleased with her performance after two years of injury problems. Georgie Rutherford, who is preparing for world triathlon championships in Hamburg, is another athlete who has had recent injury problems.
Georgie finished in 112th place in 40:52. Kevin Grainger was next home in 147th place in 42:19, followed by Ian Neill, who was 165th in 42:49.
