FAMILY craft activities inspired by an exhibition celebrating military music will take place next month.

The Durham Light Infantry’s When the Bugle Calls exhibition marched into the Durham Dales Centre in Stanhope last week, following a successful visit to Bishop Auckland.

With the story of the DLI’s band at its heart, the free exhibition explores more than two centuries of military history and tells the tales of how both the British army and individual soldiers used music to rally their regiments, keeping morale alive in dark and dangerous times.

Free family drop-in sessions take place on Saturday, May 12, from 10am to noon and 1pm to 3.30pm; and Monday, May 28, from 10am to 11am, 11am to noon, 1pm to 2pm, and 2pm to 3pm.

There will be a chance to handle some real objects and take part in a craft activity.

Booking is recommended to secure a place. Call 03000 264300 or 01388 527650.

Then the Bugle Calls runs at the Durham Dales Centre until June 10 and is open daily between 11am and 4pm.
