PEOPLE are invited to discover areas of community woodland this month with the latest in Stockton Borough Council's guided cycle rides.

The Two Wheels, Nine Woods guided ride on Sunday, from 10am until 12.30pm, starts from the Wynyard Woodland Park visitors centre.

The ride will take participants through the rural north-western outskirts of the borough, visiting woodland and villages along quiet roads and tracks.

The 11-mile ride is suitable for adults and moderately experienced cyclists.

It involves mainly on-road sections, including a few hills. The pace will be steady, and experienced marshals will accompany riders.

Councillor Mary Womphrey, the council's cabinet member for art, leisure and culture, said: "Stockton's guided cycle rides help to promote cycling and road safety in the borough for those who haven't cycled for a while or lack the confidence to ride on roads and tracks.

"They are also great fun for anyone who just wants to enjoy an organised ride in good company."

The guided ride is free and gicycles are available to borrow on the day and can be booked by calling 01642-526735.
