A COUPLE celebrated their golden wedding by supporting a hospice charity.
Colin and Shirley Donaldson, from Bedale, used their anniversary to raise money for Herriot Hospice Homecare.
Instead of gifts, their friends and family gave donations, which were received by the charity's director, Liz Pollard.
Mr Donaldson is a volunteer driver and takes patients and their carers for treatments and appointments at hospitals as far away as Leeds.
Mrs Donaldson gives her time and talents to the charity's sitting service, staying with patients at home in order to give their carers some time out.
She also helps with the befriending service, which can benefit patients dealing with a life-limiting illness and who are in need of safe, supportive company.
Mrs Pollard said: "Colin and Shirley have been members of Herriot Hospice Homecare for many years and have helped consistently as the charity has grown and developed.
"The Donaldsons' tremendous work means that we received over £500, including gift aid. We're wish them many more happy years together."
Herriot Hospice Homecare is based in the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. For more details, call 01609-777413.
