POLICE are warning elderly householders to be on their guard after three men posing as kitchen fitters stole money from a pensioner.
The men, who were all dressed in blue boiler suits, knocked on the door of a house on the Hambleton Estate, in Thirsk, between 1.30pm and 2pm on Thursday.
They told the elderly occupier that they were fitting a kitchen at the house next door and had to turn her water supply off for a short time.
One of the men asked her to turn the kitchen taps on and, while she was distracted, another of the group went into the living room and stole money from a purse.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Apart from the overalls, the only description is that they were all white and aged in their 20s.
"Two had dark hair and one was blond."
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Thirsk police on 0845-6060247.
