MORE than 1,000 local people who volunteer at this summer’s Great Exhibition of the North will receive support to boost their skills, knowledge and experience thanks to a National Lottery funded volunteering programme.
The Great Exhibition of the North’s volunteer programme is made possible thanks to almost £190,000 of National Lottery funding from the Big Lottery Fund. The grant takes the total amount given to the Great Exhibition by the Lottery to more than £1.75m.
The exhibition team is keen to offer volunteer opportunities to a range of young people and those seeking employment or looking to build their experience and skill-set.
Up to 12 hours of training, through Gateshead College, will be offered between now and June. There will then be the opportunity to volunteer for up to 40 hours at the event from June 18 to September 9.
Carol Bell, executive director, said: “This is a once in a lifetime event, and a big part of its success will come down to an army of enthusiastic volunteers.”
