NEW terraced homes could soon stand on the site of a former landmark hotel.
The Station Hotel once dominated the skyline on the coastal strip between Easington Colliery and Horden.
Built between the wars, it was a popular bar and residential hotel and was later taken over and renamed the Rock Bar.
But two years ago, the four-storey building was targeted by an arsonists.
The damage was so extensive that structural engineers recommended the remains of the building be demolished.
A year before the blaze, a planning application had been approved to build homes on the land.
The site has been cleared but remains vacant.
However, a new planning application has now been lodged with Easington District Council.
The development proposal has been submitted by North-East firm Blue Sky Construction.
The company wants to build 12 two-storey terraced houses.
The homes would be constructed in two blocks - one including nine homes facing north towards Corbett Street and the other block of three facing Station Road - along with parking for residents and visitors.
The plans also include a landscaped space.
Easington District Council will meet next Tuesday to decide on the proposal.
Planning officers have recommended the development is approved with conditions.
No objections have been lodged and planners said the plan is in line with the district's Statutory Development Plan.
In a report, council officers said there would be "no adverse impact on existing surrounding residents'.'
